The Maeve Pendulet

The Maeve Pendulet — Named for the Fairy Queen of Ireland

If you're looking for a Pendulet to spice up your summer, consider this one — a sultry combination of orange and yellow crystals that will remind you of long summer evenings and warm tropical isles.

Aragonite and Opal

The pendulum is aragonite, an energetic golden stone. Its golden yellow hue corresponds to the astrological sign of Gemini, the element of air, and the intellectual world of thoughts, ideas, and communication.

The aragonite is wrapped with a filigreed sterling silver bail, embellished with a small opal cabochon. Opals put on a constant, glittering show of flashing lights, like lightning on a smaller scale, or sun breaking through clouds. The Romans believed opal was the symbol of hope and purity, and they thought it could keep wearers safe from disease. The ancient Greeks thought opal was a prophetic stone. In the middle ages, opal was prescribed for poor eyesight, blonde women wore opal necklaces to keep their hair color bright and pure, and thieves carried opal because they thought it would make them invisible.

Red Agate

The beads in the bracelet are facetted pieces of red agate. When you wrap them around your wrist, they'll take on a swirling appearance, almost as though they're spinning gently in place. While the colors seem varied in the photo, that's a trick of the light; as your arm moves, the colors will shift from golden yellow to sunset orange — with a few touches of red thrown in for good measure.

Agates were was treasured during the stone age; they have been unearthed from archaeological sites that date back 22,000 years. The Egyptians used agate for jewelry and amulets, 5,000 years ago. Persian magicians used agate to divert storms, and for a time, agates were believed to quench thirst and protect against fevers. A hundred years before Christ, Mithradates, the king of Pontus (in what is now Turkey), owned thousands of agate bowls. Collecting agate bowls was also popular during the Byzantine Empire in the Middle Ages, as well as among European royalty during the Renaissance.

Silver Accents

The silver accent beads are seamless pieces of Argentium®, a high-quality sterling silver that's been melded with germanium, so it's tarnish-resistant. The clasp is silver, and the entire Pendulet is strung on silver wire. Silver is associated with the moon, and it is generally understood to have feminine, reflective properties. Like the moon, silver can mirror the soul and augment psychic abilities.

Measurements

The Maeve Pendulet measures 8 inches long. The aragonite pendulum is 1.5 inches long and about three-fourths of an inch wide.
