The Chantico Pendulet

The Chantico Pendulet — Named for the Mesoamerican Goddess of the Hearth Fire

The red tones of the Chantico Pendulet are mesmerizing. The round carnelian beads are translucent, so they capture rays of light like burning embers — and the faceted red jasper pendulum will remind you of a late-night bonfire on the beach.

Carnelian Beads

Carnelian, a red, orange, or brown form of chalcedony, was traditionally sacred to Isis, the Egyptian goddess who revived her dead husband Osiris. For that reason, carnelian has come to symbolize all faithful wives and companions. It’s also strongly associated with good health. Carnelian played a role in her mythology: ancient Egyptian believed that carnelian could ensure the soul’s passage into the next world, and they filled their tombs with carnelian jewels.

For centuries, artisans have carved the red stone. Buddhists in China and India used carnelian to imbue their amulets with protective power and ritual force. Westerners shared the same beliefs: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the German philosopher and man of letters, said carnelian could protect against evil and attract good fortune.

Faceted Red Jasper

The focal point of the Chantico Pendulet is a faceted cone of polished red jasper — an energetic stone that enhances confidence, power, and self-esteem. It holds a special appeal to people who have an Aries sun, moon, or ascendant. It's associated with Mars, the planet of action, assertiveness, and self-defense.

Jasper has been popular for centuries; there are records of jasper being used throughout the ancient world. In the fourth century, jasper was called the great rain-bringer.

Sterling Plated Clasp

The sterling-plated toggle clasp features a swirling design that will remind you of plumes of smoke rising from a fire.

Measurements

The Chantico Pendulet measures 8 inches from clasp to clasp, and the red jasper focal point is about 1.5 inches long.

About the Goddess Chantico

A classical Mesoamerican goddess, Chantico personifies and safeguards the hearth fires and the home, the place where families gather. The name Chantico means "in the house." Men going to battle pray to her that they will return and still find those home fires burning! Children petition her to know the future. She also became the guardian of lapidaries and some metalsmiths.
